Year 9 Enterprise Day at New Mills School - Natwest Tender Challenge

The whole of Year 9 enjoyed a day off their usual timetable to take part in the first New Mills School Business and Enterprise Day. The activity undertaken was the NatWest Face 2 Face Challenge with the Finance programme, TENDER. This is a simulation which aims to promote enterprise skills for students. The students worked together in small groups taking on the role of catering firms who present tenders for a contract to supply a local social club with an annual dinner. They were responsible for planning the supply, cooking and serving of all of the food, working out the prices of associated goods and services, raw materials and wages, transport costs and VAT. They also had to look at their profits. The tenders were then assessed based on their quality and value for money by members of the NatWest Bank’s Education team. Prizes were awarded to a variety of students for the best presentation, the best menu and the best tender. Individual prizes were also awarded for individuals who had performed well within their team. Year 9 Form Tutors were really impressed with the student’s performances on the day, especially their good behaviour, creativity and entrepreneurial skills.

The challenge gave the students an opportunity to improve enterprise skills such as financial literacy, organisation, teamwork, decision making, ICT skills, leadership, application of number and communication.
