Peak Plants at New Mills School

New Mills School Nursery was set up last year by Trevor Langston and the school groundsman, Craig Pickering, as part of their contribution to the school’s newly attained Business & Enterprise College status.

Students spend time in the school garden nurturing and selling plants and it gives them a valuable insight into the worlds of both horticulture and business. They work on a rotation basis to ensure the plants are fed and watered and they have weekly meetings to discuss stock purchasing and strategy.

Members of team include: Craig Pickering, Matthew Axe, Tom Brownson, Graeme Tatton, Adam Painter, Megan Hart, Emma Deville, Jacob Stocker, John Hadfield, Alan Bamber and Louis Prince. Students can improve enterprise skills such as organisation, teamwork, decision making, financial literacy, selling, ICT skills, application of number, employment skills, personal effectiveness and communication.
