Examples of Enterprise Fairtrade at New Mills School New Mills School Fairtrade Company was set up last year by Trevor Langston and Alan Scapens, as part of their contribution to the school’s newly attained Business & Enterprise College status.
Students were given the opportunity to set up and run a school tuck shop selling Fairtrade drinks and snacks at break times. It has been very popular and work is underway to expand the business this academic year. Not only have the students gained valuable business experience, they have also learned about the plight of farmers in poorer countries. Some of the students took part in a Fairtrade assembly at New Mills Primary School and wrote a powerpoint presentation to share the Fairtrade message with local children. They meet on a regular basis and have support from members of staff with purchasing the Fairtrade goods.
Founder members of team include: Alex Mckensie, Rebecca Kent, Heather Miles and Matthew Holt. Students can improve enterprise skills such as organisation, teamwork, decision making, financial literacy, selling, ICT skills, application of number, employment skills, personal effectiveness, communication and leadership. Contact Alan Scapens for more info. |
