Examples of Enterprise ADDING UP TO A LIFETIME Adding Up To A Lifetime is a financial literacy CD-ROM for year 9 students. Designed by teachers, it covers key aspects of financial awareness by following four animated characters through different stages of their lives. It is interactive and allows the students to work independently and at their own pace. Its purpose is to equip young people with the knowledge and skills required to make informed choices when they face financial decisions at various stages of their lives. The CD-ROM guides them through these decisions and enables them to see costs and consequences visually for perhaps the first time. The resource contains over 25 hours of learning activities based on five phases of life:
It can be delivered within any timescale but we are going to structure it so that each year 9 tutor group will have 5 hours within their existing tutorial programme. The software is very flexible with a menu system that allows teachers to pick and choose which sections they want to use. This also enables the students to pick up from where they left off in a previous lesson. The package covers savings and general expenditure before moving on to major financial decisions, such as a going on holiday, buying a house and even planning a wedding. Getting a job is covered in detail with sections on writing a C.V., interview technique and understanding tax and national insurance. The course is extremely thorough and should give all year 9 students a better understanding of the implications that financial decisions can have in later life.
